Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a Glock 22 and Sig Sauer 1911 Match pistol. I want to get more into target pistol shooting heading into local competetive shooting soon.....My question is which holster/ rig can some of you recommend suggest for the range? I'm not interested in IPSC (race gun rig) yet but simply a holster for each gun that I can use to practice target shooting with. Leather vs plastic, manufactureres, where to purchase etc...

Thanks

Sorry to jump on your thread, but I have some questions about the bladetech holsters. I have a Glock 17 and I am interested in the Bladetech line of holsters, I want to attach it to a molle gun belt, which system would be the best?

Holsters are like handguns.. it's a matter of preference. Personally I always lean towards safariland. Absolute fantastic quality. Pricey but worth it. They are also one of the few that line thier composite holsters with suede to protect your gun's finish.

It's always better to look at a few different holsters at a store or at the club first prior to ordering blind.

I got a question: say you buy one holster, can it be adjusted to fit multiple handguns? I ask because I was looking at an Uncle Mikes holster and on the back there was multiple sizes for different handguns. Now I couldnt figure out if it was adjustable or not

Fitted holsters usually only fit the one gun *maybe* if you're lucky one more similar shaped / sized handgun. Non-fitted like Uncle Mikes ballistic nylon holsters et al may fit several similar size models. I don't dislike Uncle Mike products but I would recommened a fitted holster. If you plan on any type of run & gun style shooting it's definately the way to go .. albeit more expensive.

I don't have one ( yet) but the Yaqui belt slide holsters seem like a good simple range holster that will fit multiple firearms if the slides are close.

Bladetech is top notch as is Safariland to name a couple. Don't buy anything from Uncle Mike's if you expect quality. There is not a single holster in the Uncle Mike's line that you couldn't meet or beat from a better brand for nearly the same money.

Second, the yaqui slide holster like most, are designed for specific firearms. Don't get cheap and try to run one whore holster for several guns. In addition, don't be the super cheap f*cker and run your holsters with a $10 belt from walmart. Buy a proper gun belt and proper FITTED holster if you want hassle free, proper gear. Expect to dish out a solid $100-$300 for a good belt and holster, depending on brand and style.

Anyone have opinions on quality with the following companies? I am looking for a holster for my m&p9 pro. I do prefer the STX as it is slim fitting, but have i have no first hand experience with either.

Garrit silent-thunder-stx

Or

comp-tac

Correct the Yaqui's design allows only specific firearms.
One size will do most single stacks
And another size will do most double stacks.

Good advice on buying quality and a good belt though.....

Comp Tac is good to go. Don't know anything about Garrit.

Some good advice there. A proper gun belt makes a huge difference. To those that don't believe it, go handle a few real gun belts and see how much stiffer and heavier they are than your typical fashion belt. As a bonus, they also do a better job of holding your pants up, with or without a gun hanging off them.

As for holster cost, I bought one of the cheap Bladetech injection molded kydex holsters last year to try out and it was a great bargain. It isn't as good as the proper molded kydex ones, but the price is less than half, too. If someone is looking for a decent lower priced holster to try out carrying at the range or get their feet wet in IDPA/IPSC I can say these are a good place to start for a very reasonable price.
