I'm going to order a blade tech DOH holster for my g17.

it says it comes in 1.5" and 1.75" belt width.

I have yet to look at or get a belt.

what do most people use?

I have both. It depends on the pants loops. I have some that won't take a 1.75". On the other hand, the larger belt loops and smaller belt (1.5"), tend to fold over the belt (yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm portly). And it's fugly and uncomfortable.

1.5" seems to be the popular magazine pouch beltloop size by the competition accessory manufacturers.

In my office, there are samples of JR, CR, Safariland, Speedsec and Garcia Extreme pouches. All are 1.5", a 1.75" would not work with them.

A One Inch and a half inch works well!

As above for the past 29 years I have used this belt width for carrying any number of pistol types. Milt Sparks,Haugen Leather, Ernie Hill and El Paso Saddlery works well! It fits in most belt loops, and wont roll over or move with a holster draw. I shot my Colt Python today in a Level II IPSC Match at the Grange; the belt works! Main thing is to have a harness leather thickness for the width chosen.

Blade-Tech holsters come with shims so that they can fit 1 3/4" (with no shim), 1 1/2"(with 1 shim) and 1 1/4"(with 2 shims) belts....
