That's my take on it... You wanna play IPSC then play by their rules...

'Same for PPC... the majority the course is spent teaching the rules of the game... Holster class is only a short session.

That's right... IPSC only dictates what goes on in IPSC.... Although some might like to think otherwise...
That's why I get a kick out of some IPSC shooters when they shoot an IDPA rules match and try to dig themselves out from under by quoting IPSC rules...
That said... IPSC does teach holster disapline well and for what it's worth I'd rather RO a shooter with some kind of training than one without any.

The Black Badge course is an excellent course, and as Sean mentioned "Nobody ever gets bored" The course is not just about shooting and holster qualification, it is about the sport.

The Black Badge course is accepted for CDPA and IDPA as a holster qualification. The members still have to learn the rules of the sport.


Dave Burke and Sticker instruct CDPA courses.

Steve, Jeff and myself instruct IDPA courses. Our club, "Pembroke Outdoor Sportmans Club" is only the second club in Canada to get an official IDPA affiliation, Sarnia Gun Club is the first. We are aslo members of CDPA.
 
I am also certified to instruct CDPA courses. I shoot at The Marksmen Club in Oshawa. We did our first course 2 weeks ago and are looking to book 2 more, maybe 3, before year end, we are also open to shooters who want to come from other clubs and are qulified. If interested, please PM me for information.
 
For my own curiousity (and because some people do ask)...

What is the connection between:

IDPA - International Defensive Pistol
IDPA - Independent Defensive Pistol (in the GTA)
CDPA - I assume Canadian Defensive Pistol?

Are these organizations in any way connected :confused:
 
IDPA is the original from USA

After it became more popular, CSSA jumped in and made the CDPA to jump on the bandwagon- (more money)
Sarnia is a great club to shoot at, and the IDPA organizer there is a great guy, and as well a member of CGN
Never had the chance to shoot Pembrooke, and have heard great things there
We shoot IDPA matches at Kent Cloverleaf in Chatham as well- its a great sport, and hopefully doesnt get all the entanglement of rules that other shooting games have

give it time. Looks like some of these folks got in a tiff' and disbanded from IDPA......they......split from IDPA.!!

No Tiff at all, They were never officially associated with IDPA. For the revolver division you require probihited revolvers... in Canukistan that is a no no.. didn't you know evil short guns are bad? Different country, different rules.

Many of the good folk have found it easier to start a Canadian version of the sport and start from there.

Click on the link Pop? I was referring to the IDSA, which was whose founding member (s) was in IDPA, but then started there own "sport" in the USA.
I fully understand that the Canadian version is something else, bu twith simliar rules to IDPA.

i believe the rules in IDPA allow longer revolver barrels- i cant recall the exact wording, but it allows to the laws in the country its being shot in
 
I dunno, I think the BB course is alot of fun. Holster info lasted only a few minutes. Seemed to cover lots of good stuff from weak hand shooting to safely shooting prone etc. Based on some of the people I took the course with I am glad that there is some training prior to people shooting IPSC. I can think of a couple who I wouldnt want to have been near when they were on the range. Interestingly enough 2 of them claimed long term military duty in eastern block countries for experiece. They could shoot great, but their safety was total ####. Sweeping people while loaded numerous times.

The BB is good, I wish it went into abit more detail as I was sort of confused on many rules when I shot my first match. Not so much safety stuff, but other things.

So If I want to shoot IDPA I still have to take a small pre match course or somehting? Or is it just a quick info session on the rules and scoring?
 
I agree, the BB is a great course, I enjoyed it, learned a lot, and sharpened my skills, but for those who want to shoot IDPA only the CDPA course is the way to go, I think.
