Holster certification for IDPA

lmao..yeah..sounds ok. I just got myself a large stainless wine fridge. Holds about 60 bottles, gotta start filling it.

I would drink ditch water right now Im so thirsty..lol

I go out for ONE night and look what happens!

I noticed that Maurice is easily distracted while drinking wine too!:p

I really like Steve's idea of a drills and skills nights to help develop new shooters and to help us experienced ones!

I do think that a holster qual course of somekind is needed but I'm not sure how we would pull that off... similar to an IPSC BB course, I think. I know that USPSA and IDPA don't require it BUT there are many shooters who benefit from it. Perhaps, we should determine what a course would entail, develop a lesson plan and make the cost reflective of costs for targets, patches and membership fee.

Just a thought....

Oh, and Dan..who you calling some flower boy..goofy girl-pants-wearing, westcoast buffooon????:dancingbanana:

Hi Earl,
I think I like the way IDPA is handling the whole holster issue. They allow the experienced shooters to take the new guys aside and sort them out. Avoiding a course for every little thing, which only seems to line the pockets of certain people, if you know what I mean and I'm sure you do. At our club we take care of the new shooters and supervise the unknown, and it all seems to be working out well.
What do you think?

Steve

Hey Steve,

I know that it certainly is working at your club and I love the way you guys are handling it!:)

I hope we can continue in this manner but I'm just wondering what will occur if the sport continues to grow and fill a niche that IPSC isn't presently fulfilling (some just don't like it..fair enough..we all have different tastes!)

Earl

At yesterdays match one person didn't have a holster nor mag pouches - sorted. I had my 1911 Blade Tech and Willysman had the mag pouch.

Another person load all of the equipment, including ammo and pistol.

At the next match that person will try a BHP, and someone else may try a wheelie.

That is true Pete,

At one of our matches I had 3 people completely decked out in Kit and weapons, ammo as well I think, but in the end what goes around comes around.

I hope you're not inferring that the CSSA's CDP course is some kind of money grab?? As an instructor, I'm not paid for my time planning or conducting courses. I do it because I want people to be safe and have fun on the range! :)

As explained in other threads, course fees cover things like targets, photocopies and go to building office resources. The CSSA course provides a certificate and that takes time and money to administrate...

At a club level it's easy enough to have casual supervised training, but a certificate course allows people to travel to matches at other clubs. As CDP is growing this kind of safety/training assurance is necessary, especially in provinces like Ontario where the CFO is seemingly less friendly with the shooting sports.

Just my thoughts, not an official position, thanks. :):)

What The.....

Hi Raks,

Read my thread again, I shoot all styles. I will try anything once. I am one of the 24 CDP instructors in Canada, and I really believe that the CDP has created more intrest in action shooting than any other disipline in recent memory. Our club is a CDP and IDPA affiliated club. Why do we shoot both? Because a number of us are planing on heading for the Palm Trees during the brutal months. This way we just drive up and shoot. We have a lot of friends who are CDP shooters as well and we enjoy traveling to shoot with them. We do try to keep costs down though, and of all the disiplines (and I shoot them all) IDPA is the best bang for the buck. As there is no charge for any training (ever) after a membership is paid which is also cheaper. most of the RO's in our club are military or ex-military and we train the shooters because we love to shoot. No money will ever be made at our club with the exception of range fees, target replacement, and affiliation dues. Hope this clears up my earlier thread, I would never slam another disipline, unless of course Earl was the founder of it!:)

That's right, we do respect each other, although you wouldn't know it when you see us together.
