Wanna get a holster for my 9mm M&P, can't decide if Leather would be best or

Wondering if anyone has experiences with a Serpa or Fobus Holster?

I can get either one at my gunstore for 49.99 or 29.99 respectively

Or i can get a Leather one from Smith for 69 US

What do you guys think, experiences?

Thanks

I bought a Forbus for my G17, it is not so much a holster, more like a gun clamp......if you have the choice go with the Serpa or a BladeTech, Uncle Mikes would be my next choice in Kydex. I only have one Leather holster, so can't really comment, but it works well, just took some breaking in, like all leather holster I would presume.

I have a Raven Concealment kydex holster for my M&P, it's incredible - the only kydex holster I've seen that you can look at and tell what pistol it's for. Kydex will last longer than leather and with the M&P it won't scratch the finish. The Raven is light, stable and secure without latches or buttons and can be used in multiple roles by changing attachments.

If you want it for IPSC, the Blade-Tech DOH.

If you want it for CCW, the Comp-Tac CTAC or Comp-Tac MTAC.

If you want to CCW with a light, the Raven.

Funny you mention that. I used my Fobus for the first time last Friday and I kept giving myself a wedgie! Read online that this is common. They recommend spraying the inside with silicone. I had some Remington Silicone Lube and it works great but I would never buy a Fobus again!

Another vote for Comp-tac.com, but I'm going to stray from the pack a bit and recommend the Minotaur hybrid holsters. Leather where you want comfort and kydex where you want the holster to firmly hold your gun.

They have both IWB and OWB models

Hey mister D-Mac, what style were you looking at? Belt, paddle, or drop-leg? I have a Safariland 6004 drop-leg for a G19/G23 if you want to look it over, but I recall it costing me a pretty penny - perhaps things have changed now.

It definitely is the bee's-knees, though.

Fobus holsters are crap IMO. I had one and it really put a lot of wear on my Glock.

The Serpa on the other hand is a great holster. I have a level II (so no hood) but the draw is smooth and it just feels right.

Another couple of "online" fixes...

"I folded a piece of paper about 12 times until it made a good wedge. Then, I jammed that wedge in between where the two holster "panels" are fit together, right at its retention point of the trigger guard (no gun in the holster) I then put it on the dash of my car in the hot Texas sun in the summer for 2 days. It worked wonders."

"I have a Fobus SW 357 for my S&W 340 wheel gun. The fit was so tight, I had to use both hands to execute the draw. The BG's got so tired of waiting for a fair fight they went home. Seriously I fixed the problem by jamming a rubber washer to open the holster at the trigger guard and secured it with a small stainless bolt and nut to make sure it stays in place. Works great."

I had the leather M&P holster for mine. I ordered it from the M&Pstore on line. Once it's broken in you will love it.

I made my "Fobus Clamp" adjustable the other day as I didn't wish to spray the inside with silicone everytime I used it. I just bought a few things from Canadian Tire including three rubber gromlets and locking nuts to make it adjustable. Works great.....
