Holster Course

For those who belong to Gun Clubs that have a holster course or holster qualification course, what does it consist of ?

We're looking at offering to our member a holster course (not a mandatory one) where this would be covered:

-equipement
-proper use of holster: unholster/holster a firearm
-trigger discipline: static&move
-immediate actions: mag changes&malfunction
-shooting positions
-confirmation stage: either a small IPSC stage or a police style shooting qualification

If this was offered in your Club, would you be interested ?

Ammo count: 200-300
Cost: 20-25$ including a lunch and goodies at the end (attendance prizes)

The main goal is to provide something to our members who dont necessary want to do IPSC/BB but want to learn more about pistol shooting and using a holster.

Yes ? No ?

Feedback and suggestions are more than welcome
#####ing and moaning: go polute another thread please

Our club offers similar holster course for our non IPSC members and non members that want to shoot our club level 3 Gun matches. Similar price and skills drills...minus the lunch. Usually well attended.

In calgary holster courses are mandetory in order to use a holster at the range.

Cost is arround 200 bucks and covers holstering and unholstering, intro to move and shoot, malfunction practice and intro to multi target engagement

Are you talking about TSE and CSC courses? SDTSA and BTSA will have holster courses this year for much less then $200 and will cover more ;)

With our brand new outdoor range opening soon, how would we go about setting something like this up for our members?

Feel free to PM

I dont know how it works in civy clubs. But first step would be to approach the executive of your club. Then find people that hold actual qualifications (soldiers, police, ipsc/idpa) and ask then if they'd like to run something within these line. Make sure you have qualified staff as well. Right now I'm drafting the "course" with a 3:1 ratio for training and a 1:1 ratio for the evaluation.

After that its all about people showing up.

That depends on if you are talking about a course designed to meet members interests or a course designed to satisfy the executive that people are safe to participate in certain/activities.

Both can be done at the same event.

We ran a CQB/3guns course in 2014 and 2015 at CTRV. Both time it was sold out with 60+ people. The course was fun, people are demanding we do more. The aim of the course were to teach how to use pistol/ar/shotgun safely, with actual drills and the end goal was to allow people to shoot 3guns matches at CTRV.

Unfortunatly there is more than a year wait list to get in at either of the outdoor ranges.

Its really too bad as I want to get into competitive shooting but the indoor ranges put a bit of a limit on whats possible training wise.

I think the closest outdoor range to me that is accepting members is Crowsnest Pass or Rocky Mountian House.

If you have any secrets to getting into BTSA or SDTSA without waiting years Id be all ears :)
