Need suggestion as to where I can get a good quality (preferably leather) holster for S&W 44 Mag. Model 629 Performance Centre Hunter revolver with 7.5" bbl?

www.larocheleathers.com

Joe made me a thumbreak style holster and speedloader pouch for my Redhawk. Great service, fast delivery and high quality products. Fits the Redhawk like a glove, too.

What disciplines are the 44 magnums used in? I know some use them for Cowboy, but those would be the single actions, and usually use 44 special.

You can use one in IDPA if you want, there are steel shoots around that would work as well.

ouch! IDPA with a 44Mag. hmm.... i guess as long as you can conceal the mofo!!! would make for one expensive match day, though - but thankfully Limited Vickers Count shows up now and again to keep the wallet in check :p

Nah, just shoot light loads. I load 245gr cast bullets to around 1000fps for about $0.20/round, this is comparable to any 9mm commercial reloads I have found and a lot more fun to shoot.

The rules only say it has to be concealed, they don't say you can't be printing from 50yds away.:D

Holster for .44 mag

Nah, guys, although it sounds like fun (shooting IDPA match with a 44 Mag. 7.5" barrel Smith Hunter), I shoot Safari matches at my gun club with it. They allow big bore revolvers, with .44 Mag. being a minimum allowed caliber.

LOL! ya, and i guess a trench coat would work too. technically.

Sounds pretty interesting. What are guys using? 460 S&W and such?

"....44 Mag. being a minimum allowed caliber..." Serious game playing. snicker. A leather holster for a 7.5" 629 shouldn't be terribly difficult to find. May not be great for fast drawing, if that's part of the game. Hunting holsters are usually more about lugging the thing around. Cross draw, maybe. If that's allowed.
Where you are matters. As does how much you want to spend. Haven't bought a holster for eons. Make my own.

Just found out with my gun club - shoulder holsters are allowed in Safari matches, but with the following provisions:

1. holster keeps the revolver oriented vertically, muzzle pointed to the ground, absolutely no horizontal rigs allowed;

2. when drawing, the revolver is drawn straight upward (maintaining the vertical muzzle point to the ground orientation), the revolver orientation transition from vertically point down to point to target is achieved by the muzzle direction tracking a straight line only from straight down to straight forward (smoothly rotating at the wrist to achieve this);

3. holstering is achieved via an exact reverse of the draw.

Looks like more trouble than drawing from the belt holster....so, I'm ordering a belt holster from Joe Laroche....

Thanks everybody for the input.

I get all of my holsters from Bob @ Mernickle Holsters he used to be a member of the Mission BC gun club until he moved to the States.
