Hi guys

I did search forums for recommendations but could not find much....I have one coming this week and would like to get a holster for it...

h t tp://www.ebay.com/itm/Blackhawk-410503BK-R-CQC-SERPA-Holster-Black-RH-Colt-Government-1911-Variants-/200826643829?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec2336575

Do you think that will fit it ? Anyone uses that one for their 1911s ?

Any recommendations for it ? Something that won't break the bank...but could be used for IPSC...no cash for Ghost or CR rigs :(

Thanks

daRRski

DO NOT buy a Serpa, they are poorly thought out and can result in you putting one through yourself when drawing(look up Tex Grebner on Youtube if you don't know what I'm talking about). Now if you are intelligent and focused you can use one safely but the way the lock works it does create the potential for such a situation.

In terms of recomendations, for a holster that does not break the bank, I would suggest a Fobus holster or even an uncle mikes kydex holster. They provide clearance from the body for easy draws and the retention on them is adjustable. Any holster for a 1911 government model should fit your SR1911.

Hi
Thanks for replies...yeah...I've seen that incident on youtube....would that apply to Serpa only....or the iTac and IMI with similar designs ?

I bought a safariland leather/ laminate for my 1911 and I like it.

The Serpa issue is not really a concern when you have an external safety like on the SR1911 IMO. I'd be more concerned about a ND with a Serpa and a glock or similar pistol.

I have seen or had a several of the kydex style holsters including Uncle Mikes & Fobus and the ones I like best are the Blackhawk CQC Standard (non-Serpa) models. They come with both a belt and a paddle attachment and are adjustable for forward or rearward cant. Not sure who deals with them in Canada but as they are a non-firearm part I don't believe there is any problem with importing one yourself. I use a 1911 model with my Kimber and really like it. I have an SR1911 and it fits fine in the Blackhawk.

Bladetech would be my sugggestion. I have a Blackhawk that I use with my 1911 Commander and a Raven that I use with my M&P - Bladetech is closer to the Raven in quality, after you've used a good holster (Raven) it's very tough to use a Blackhawk because everything that's wrong with it just screams at you. Incidentally, my Blackhawk has had it's Serpa lock removed, I'd be embarrassed to death if I shot myself in the leg. There is a guy here in Canada who makes very nice Kydex, if you're looking for good gear - someone will drop his name soon (I can't remember who it is)

Another vote for Bladetech. They make two tiers, a cheap injection molded one similar to the Uncle Mike's or Fobus and a properly molded Kydex one. The cheap one is fine for casual use and will last a long time the way we use pistols in Canada, while the molded one is simply excellent for everything.

Watch this video he explains perfectly what happend and how its prevented.

Nothing worng with serpa as long as its used properly

Holsters that require the user to do anything but pull the gun are ridiculous IMHO. Without extensive training, in a stress situation these holsters cause fumbling/delay=dead owner. leather holster with a snap strap and you're good to go.

Good thing we live in Canada where we only have worry about drawing our pistols at aprroved ranges where these Stress situations never have to happen

I can give you stress on an approved range - pretty easy to do really, at least it would be easy to create enough stress for you to blow the draw from a Serpa. It's just not a good design and it's executed poorly and the quality of materials used is poor, but at least it's not inexpensive.

This is the holster I will be using with my Ruger SR1911....

Blaming stress for screwing up a draw on a Serpa is like blaming recoil for a flinch. It's user error. Practise what you run then practise some more.

Um, yeah, OK. While you're doing that make sure you stay within your comfort zone, because if you don't push your limits, you'll still improve. Too many really good instructors will not allow Serpas on their range for it to be a training issue.

^^this^^ Perfect, no need to tacticool. This holster and those like it protect the firearm and once broken in, draw like butter. In a stress situation if you yank on the firearm its coming out. No need to F around with levers, switches, rub your tummy while tapping your head to get at your gun.
