I don't know #### about handgun holsters so need some advice.

Tried cheaper basement holsters and wasn't very impressed.

I have some kind of Safariland drop leg holster for a P226 with light. I'm not a fan of #### touching my leg but the holster is pretty slick and very solid.

So I'm looking for a Safariland or Safariland style holster for a Glock 19 G4 and maybe Glock 17 G5 (not sure if I'm going to keep the Glock17, just feels like a weird angle as much as I want to love it).

Looking for either no light or an Inforce APL/C, drop leg or something I can carry on my hip.

What should I be looking at?

With Safariland you are not married to the drop leg mount. They produce various mounting solutions and with the qls system you can easily swap them around. As far as holsters go, safariland’s website has a “find your holster option” you will have to decid what type of retention system you want to go with, ALS, SLS, both etc. The T7 series has a model that will fit the glock and house various lights.

Is this for general range use, tactical or competition? How much running around will you be doing?
Will you be wearing plates regularly?

General range use and competition. Likely no plate carrier.

I'll take a look (and at the others suggested from Travis and Griffin).

Is there some kind of set up where I can easily swap the holster from a belt mount to drop leg?

I noticed some holsters specifically have Glock 17 gen 5, or, Glock 17s gen 1-4. Is the gen 5 that much of a difference to need a separate holster?

G-Code has numerous mounting systems which allow you to switch from a belt/battle belt to a drop leg quite easily, and their mounting system will work with different holsters if that is what you want.
Personally, I only use Solely Canadian holsters, they are the best holsters in Canada period, bit of a wait to have one built but you will never regret it.

Will you be using a battle belt set up or a regular gun belt/ IPSC style double belt?

My take is if you’re not using a chest rig/ plate carrier, then a belt mounted holster with a straight draw is optimum.

If you’re using a battle belt, you can get a competition type set up where the gun sits a bit away from your body so there is clearance for an unimpeded draw. The Safariland ALS style works well or the Solcan, as edgy mentioned. Do you really need a Level 3 retention system?
If you’re using a normal gun belt, just get a belt loop system in 1.75”. Again, SolCan makes a design for this.

I don’t recommend a drop leg style, unless you’re running a plate carrier regularly. I personally hate the feeling of something tight swinging on my leg when I run but ymmv.

I run a zero cant Concealment design by SolCan on Malice Clips on my battle belt and I also use a plate carrier. I’ve never had issues with the draw at all in competition and the gun has never even come close to falling out. Tim makes good stuff!

Enter the QLS

I believe the reason for the 17.5 needing a different holster is due to the ambi slide release. There may be other reasons but this is the only one I can think of.

The ALS Safariland light bearing holster will secure your blaster with or with out the light attached. If you grab one for your Glock and some QLS forks and plates you can swap your set up around very easily. Additionally the QLS system can be used with other holster brands such as SolCan and T.Rex Arms. I had a Solcan for my Glock w/x300 and found a little to be desired with it, particularly with the retention, it was either too sloppy or far too tight and I had to really yank the pistol out. I also disliked that it was two layers of kydex which I found to be quite bulky and added nothing of value. How ever, I believe this was an earlier model so the newer ones may have improved. Their mag carriers are absolutely out standing however. Another option is Bladetech. Solid holster, very simple. Regarless what holster you choose, be sure to choose a solid one from a reputable manufacture. The last thing you want is your pistol spilling out and eating #### on the pavment, gravel, etc.
