I just came back from a shopping trip to Plattsburg , NY and I checked out the ammo at WalMart and gander Mountain.

I can tell you that a box of 100 .40 S&W now goes for $19.99 at WalMart, a few monthsback the same box was $15.97. Even the clerk said that boxes of ammo have jumped about $4 per box.

At Gander Mountain , a box of 50 CCI .22lr Stingers went for about $6.00!!

I bought a brick of 500 Stingers for $37.00 at Le Baron. Not worth it anymore

So a few ¢ worth of metel drives the price up between 20 and 100%?

Riiiiight.

Maybe the supply of munitions is low world wide.

Boys the price of lead has risen 300% in the last 3 years, as that price continues to rise you will see another large increase next year as well.Tungsten materials are way up as well.I just bought some rimfire from Wholesale $134.99 for a case of American Eagle or $13.99 per brick, that same ammo in the 2007 Federal price book to the dealer is over $15.00 per brick, so guys if you want to able to shoot cheaply for the next 10 years or so you should invest some money in your favorite factory loaded lead products.FS

I am not a reloader.. but a friend of mine works at wholesale sports and I guess they will not be getting any primers??? as the war effort has consumed them all....

I was at Lawry's in Calidonia just before Christmas. They had a warehouse full of 4X4X4 ft skids of cases of primers. They had everything but 210M:mad:

I just got back from LeBaron's in Mississauga, and boy did the price of ammo go up; a brick of Remington .22's jumped up about 5 bucks a brick, and the Rem UMC .223 55gr FMJ's went from $5.72 a box to $7.63:puke:

Powder and primers are getting awful hard to track down too. Looks like some lean times ahead for shooting.

The cost of copper has gone up, China has been buying it all up.

You know, I have no idea why this isn't talked about. No one seems to care that for a while now, years even, China has been building it's armies and military equipement ie: Tanks, planes, missiles etc. at an exponential rate!!! No government or country has mass produced their military in this manner since Hitler did when he was in power in Germany. Scary stuff folks, VERY scary stuff.:(

I seel copper plumbing, and we used to be able to (about a year ago) sell a roll of 1/2 soft copper tubing for about $60, now it costs us about $120 or so.
its crazy.

On Bloomberg Radio, they had a market analyst that said the high price of copper opened several new mines and re-opened several old. He expected the price to come back down by year end.

At a couple bucks a pound there is not enough brass in a box of 22lr shells to worry about. It would amount to a few pennies.

Lets take lead. it's .85@lb . So with todays price for lead there is about .25 worth of lead in a box of 22lr.

So even at today's prices there is less than $0.30 worth of metals in a box of 22lr. Couple of years ago the price may have been $0.20. Still think metal prices have a great effect on the price you pay? Or is it just a handy excuse?

But of course the brass in your shells is worth more than a couple bucks a pound. I am getting $1.25/lb for the junk I sweep up off the floors here.
