Hi guy's i'm new to reloading, just gathering all my tools and components. Long story short cabelas was the only place that carried what i was looking for and i ordered it online...and the next day recieved an e-mail stating that the shipping was not the $10 they quoted but $150 for one pound of powder, i understand that it's a dangerous item but is this shipping price common when ordering powder? besides the local guys around vancouver...is all national shipping rates going to be that expensive?

I don't know where the nearest Cabela's is from you but if you order in store pickup there is no charge for shipping. I ordered powder( Varget 8 lb) from Henry at Budget Shooter Supply and it was shipped via Canpar and was nowhere that much for shipping, can't remember exactly but not remotely close to what Cabela's quoted you.

I ordered 8 lbs. of hp-38 from Higginson's I think the shipping was just under $30.00

Possibly a typo? Have you gotten an explanation from Cabela's on why they want so much for shipping? It is a dangerous goods item, but so is ammunition and 880rds cost lest than eighty dollars to ship.

I live near vancouver and no Cabelas nearby...none in B.C if i'm not mistaken! Here is the message i got sent "Due to the dangerous goods on your order, there are additional shipping charges required. The shipping would be an additional 149.27 with Day & Ross as Canada Post and UPS will not handle these items. The rest of the order can go with UPS for no extra charge. Please advise how you would like to proceed."
i also cancelled the rest of my order!

They phoned me one time, same thing. I ordered a bunch of stuff, including a pound or two of powder. The guy calls and says "Um, I don't think you want this powder that bad." I said no, he removed it from the order and sent me the rest of the stuff.

They're using the wrong carrier. Loomis has much better hazmat rates. Probably the same price to ship 100 lbs of powder by Day and Ross.

Budget is who i'm going to order the majority of my equitment from but they don't have many powders listed on thier site...was going to give them a call in the A.M

Wow....inflatation is one thing , but 150 bucks to ship 1 lb. of powder is unreal......what does the powder come with its own personal security escort...?
