holy crap!

Wait till he gets the rings off... It might not look so pretty against rusting steel. A testament to that scope, but both my younger brother and a friend (big338 on CGN) have had conquests go back on warranty for fogging up within a year of purchase.

Hunt out of a boat or canoe on a river and you might be surprised...
When everything goes swimming not everything floats.

My late Brother certainly found that out one cold morning several years ago.
He was floating down the Murray River near Tumbler Ridge when his canoe got caught in a whirlpool and into the drink he went along with his gear and a 700 Remington Classic in 300 H&H .
He made it out, the 300 didn't...

Kayak hunting ducks, I lost my shotgun overboard... Used my mojo stake to fish it back up. Lucky the water was only about 6 feet deep.
I can see how it would be easy to lose a rifle overboard.

I just restored my friends hunting rifle. He was up on the CANOL TRAIL, and when he crossed a river on his quad, the damn quad started to "float" when he hit a deep spot, and began to float downstream fast, it hit a snag of some kind and turned over. My buddy got to shore, and they managed to get his quad about 50 or so meters downstream. When he looked , his rifle was gone. He gave up on it, and just said "fkkk it" . His brother knew it was handed down to him and went back the next 2 days , diving in near freezing water for almost 2 hours each time trying to find the gun. HE FOUND IT. But by the time they got back to Yellowknife a week later, it had rusted terribly. I spent the better part of 2 days myself restoring it, de-scaling it and rebluing it. Looks like about a 95% gun now. He sure has an awesome brother. I certainly wouldn't dive in Yukon water for my siblings. (at least not for a second day)

Murray River..... The big one in Australia, initially I thought maybe, but then I read 300 H&H... an I thought Not A Chance... You would be bloody lucky to find a 300 HH in Aus ;)

Losing a rifle from a boat is one thing. Getting up and walking away from your rifle and leaving it behind is just plain stunned.

The quote from Zeiss site.

Anyone who goes hunting in the mountains must always expect weather changes, which cancel the expedition suddenly and unexpectedly. Sometimes, equipment is left behind. Also during recovering hunted game it can happen that the weapon is misplaced and cannot be found back.

In John Sveen’s case it was much simpler. He took a short break and afterwards he went on without his rifle, a ZEISS scope mounted on the rifle.
After nine years, John was amazed when his friend Knut Øyjorda found his gun in the mountains: The wooden stock was bleached out and brittle, the muzzle was rusted and unusable. Only the scope was still like new. The coating withstood the weather, the cold and heat could not harm the optics. The Customer Service in Wetzlar checked the scope in detail and concluded: ZEISS products are indestructible!

A story told to me by a buddy who solo-hunts for moose in Northern Ontario, happened to a gang next to him.

Group of either two or three guys (not sure) get in an aluminum boat to head upriver to post for moose.
Boat hits a rock, all three hit the drink and struggle to make it ashore alive. One of the guys loses his rifle
and all three walk for a couple of miles along the shoreline to make it back to camp. The guy who lost his
rifle is pretty banged-up from the incident and is suffering from hypothermia so his buddies decide to drive
for two hours and take him to the local hospital for treatment.

Somewhere along the line, the local MNR is informed of the story, they get an accurate description of where
the boat flipped and send a diver team to find the rifle. Divers find the rifle (loaded...) and the CO promptly
visits the patient at the hospital to personally deliver his ticket for having a loaded rifle on a powered motorboat!

We git arr arses wet and make a bigg'un fire to warm up.

Following up to my previous post, my Brother managed to get on the bank after, no small feat considering he couldn't swim, recovered some of his gear minus the rifle of course and was able to get a fire going.
He stripped down to the altogether and huddled up close to the roaring fire while his clothes dried and all of a sudden around a bend in the river comes a jet boat full of family and all the kids shrieking and laughing at my naked brother, who needless to say was totally embarrassed !!
The canoe was recovered upside down in a snag not far away with my short-barreled 12 ga. double jammed in the bottom.
I still have that shotgun and think of that incident every time I see it..
