I shot the sks again today, I got a very nasty surprise.
I touched off the first round and the whole mag went off with one pull of the trigger.
I almost crapped myself.........
Luckily I had a good grip on it and it was pointed into the bush.
I went home and gave it a thorough cleaning.
What the hell happened??????

firing pin stuck, slam fire ensued.

Give the bolt a good blast of brake kleen and make sure the firing pin moves freely.

^^ Probably what he said. If you can't hear the pin rattle back and forth, clean it some more. I just submerged the bolt/carrier in varsol for a day and it ate the cosmoline right off.


Edit to include: If the firing pin is installed backwards, it could have the same problem.

Bump fire it and it will give you an idea.

Its so easy to take apart, why bother soaking it, then you know for sure its squeaky clean.

I had an SKS with that issue ...mine had a badly worn sear ited catch once in awhile ..so lets say you cocked it and it held ...that never ment that when you squeezed the trigger ited catch again and ripppppp go's mag lol little freaky when it first happened.

Seriously though I have seen a 1911 unexpectedly go "full auto" after breaking a part and the guy was lucky he didn't hurt someone (the range ceiling was a little worse for wear too!)

It happend once on me , you should clean the pin everytime you fired.

Yeah, the firing pin sticking when crudded up with cosmo and gunk is a known issue that's easily avoided through good gun hygiene.

SKS bolt disassembly is one of the easiest things. I would dis-assemble and clean every time I went to the range with one of my SKSs.

You have to fully CLEAN any SKS you buy, that actually goes for all firearms new to you...
