Okay so my Norco 305 shorty needs a barrel index. It's not too bad but the front site is all the way to the righ and the gas system doesn't line up. I stripped her down and removed the barrel set screw. Next using 2 pairs of channel locks and some leather straps I attempted to turn the barrel counter clockwise but couldn't get it to budge. I didn't want to force the issue and do any damage.. Is there an easier way to do this, I mean is my barrel just over tightened into the receiver? Any input would be great guys, thanks

You need a receiver wrench and a barrel vise.

you will generally need to be able to put about 120 foot lbs of torque to break her free.
and ensuring 80 to 90 foot lbs of torque needed to set it to index.
brownells sells the barrel vice for pretty reasonable and an easy peezy sell off on the EE when yer done with it. or hang on to it and help out your buddies.
like mentioned above, there are some big azz crescent wrenches out there that guys have successfully used as a receiver wrench, try a princess auto or similar type of store for that.
I thought about doing an m14 and garand tool/gauge rental program but I'd need to be a dealer here again to do that.
here's what a guy can order from brownells though and they aren't gun parts they are tools so the limits don't apply as they do for parts.

1 3/4 inch open end wrench fits the receiver .
Cut the box end of the wrench off so a cheater bar can slip over the end .
I traced Hungrys barrel vice and made my own copy.
You will also need a couple c clamps to hold the straight edges in place on your front sight and heel of the receiver , masking tape.
2 straight edges ( I use 2 sets of cleaning rods) ,
This rifle was under indexed so in this pic I am tightening the receiver onto the barrel more to align the cleaning rods , when tightening the barrel this is the only spot the wrench will work. To loosen the barrel ( on an overindexed barrel) you have to insert the wrench from the side .
Notice the wrench is placed onto the receiver from the side when loosening the receiver in the pic on the right. We pulled down on the bar to loosen it until we could line up the two straight edges.
