You obviously have not discussed this with your wife, cause your still around to tell the story.. lol
Communication in my marriage has always been a weak point, but after 18 years why change?

Im assuming you live in Canada... So there is no such thing as a home defense gun. That being said - I think the less "scary" looking gun would be the way to go. You don't want to look like the gun crazy when the police/media get ahold of the news a gun was used for defense. Nothing black - probably something camo dipped that could give more the image of the heroic hunter who happened to save his family from the bad guy.

My intruder defense plan is the same as my bear / cougar/ elephant etc defense. Throw my wife at them,to buy me and the dogs time to get away.

Yup, but it's not a shotgun that's in it. My home defense gun is a Colt 1911 .45 ACP. I keep it in an actual safe (as opposed to a gun cabinet) with an electronic lock that can be opened in seconds without looking for or fumbling with keys. The mag and ammo are stored separately, of course.
Inuit carving on the dresser.
I think that only works against a Swiss Army Knife.
It worked for Chretien.
