Does anyone know if there any common standards as far as needing to inform your home insurance carrier that you store restricted or non-restricted firearms in the house?

Just curious if this is commonplace or not.
Thanks!

I asked my insurers if they would cover the firearms if they were stolen or the house burned and they had no problem with them and told me they would be covered.
I would rather be sure than find out after something happens. Insurance companies can and will try and screw you over at every opportunity when it comes to making a claim.
There is no need to inform them.

No you don't need to tell them, but just remember you have a cap on your contents how you use it it is up to you. If you have thousands of $ in firearms and related you should have a rider on your policy to cover the extra also up to date pictures and serial #'s are nice.

Read the fine print and ask the hard Questions.

I found out after a few years my discount insurance would not cover firearms. In fact they were scared I had firearms.

I found a good broker ( a Guy I grew up with and went to school with ) He shopped around and set me up with a good company that would provide enough coverage to make me feel good about my choice without adding extra riders.

In the process I had my broker over to see my guns and reloading set up and educated him. They were more worried about the fireplace and my pool.

my 2 cents, have a good broker and a good relationship with him/her. Dont hide anything.

Thanks everyone. I have a grand total of $0 worth in my collection today, but I'm working on it :)

Also when you call to raise the amount that you're covered for dont give them the same amount you gave to your wife LOLL

I asked the insurance company, they sent me the fine print. The firearm is covered except the firearm has been used in crime. All I need is the receipt of such firearm.
