Built one for: wood lying around the house free, $25(? can't remember) for BBQ motor, ~$100 for hoses and torches and hardware and t-valve and bolts (hooks up to 20lb tank), .25" steel plate water cut for multiple calibers.....cost one case of beer . Torch holders where cut from an old speaker stand and JB welded together.

Say $150 for the project including the beer I owe my buddy.

Does a pretty good job IMO.

Here is one that I have built from stuff I had laying around. Old computer desk, cordless drill with obsolete battery, 9 volt power supply, saw blade. I did have to buy 2 torches from Canadian Tire, I liked these ones because they allowed easier positioning with the bottles remote from the torch. After reading the posts here I may replace the drill with a bbq motor because the drill is dificult to keep at a constant speed as slow as is required.

Yes, but I stand the cases base down in a 12"x12" steel pan with water half-way up them, 1" deep, heat the necks until red and knock them over in the water with a screw-driver.
I saw plans for one which rotated the necks through one torch, and a lever knocked them off the plate into the water. I might make one of that type.
With no water to cool the bottom half of the case, how do you know you are not softening the heads?
Sounds pretty dangerous to me.

the rotating steel plate works like a heat stop so the anealing stops at the plate and doesnt affect the heads at all i have pulled them out with my fingers under the plate without them being hot at all. that is why you dont need the water

What would happen if you dipped the brass neck into some molten lead and then dropped the case into water?

I already had the mill, so I just used some scrap Al I had in the shop to make it:

You can find linear mechanisms complete with the motor at surplus shops. It wouldn't be difficult or expensive to create a something similar as a stand alone unit, complete with case feeding. The case feeder is just a piece of 1/2" copper pipe, but it would not be difficult to mount a Hornady or Dillon case feeded.

Had a buddy build one out of a kiddy record player, we put a light dimmer swithc to slow it down even slower than 33 and a third RPM.

Put a cork hot pad on the turntable, and used a 8 inch round cake pan half full of water.

bernzomatic torch, and a heat marker from the welding shop.

Seemed to work ok for him.

Bought the record player at a thrift store for $10 or something like that.

Never tried it, but by all accounts, you would end up with lead-plated case necks.

Try the same thing with molten salt, and it works pretty well, though the salt drips everywhere.
