looking to put together the caller found on varment als web site the amp and speaker are from radio shack. there is no rodio shacks around any more, anyone know where to get these? anyone else built one? how do they work and are they loud enuf??
 
I know i tried finding the mini audio amp at the source and they don't carry it Canada anymore, at least my neck of the woods.

If you got the spare parts or cash you could always rig up a car amp, to a small 12 v battery, but that may be heavy.
 
was looking at that to. most car cd player put out 15 to 25 watts per channel. wouldnt need an amp. but would rather run off a mp3 player in use walkies to have it wireless to put out at a distance. i have every thing but the amp an some wires. and i am looking to make it for cheap. any other ideas.
 
I built one. I am in and out of the states all the time so getting parts is not a problem for me. I got the amplifier in Tennessee and the speaker in New York state. The unit works well :)
 
Get a soulra portable ipod solar charger/speaker setup from ETON and use that :)

I built one and it works great! Had to get a friend in the States to get me the mini amp and speaker though....

You can buy the kit and build the amp yourself or pay a few more $ and they will assemble it.


I picked up the wireless microphone set off Fleabay.
 
Built one last year, on the cheap, just to prove it could be done. Here's the thread that described it, had a blast putting it together, doesn't sound all that bad.

It makes a great ghetto-blaster for backyard parties!
 
I ripped apart one of those iPod speakers that dollarama sells, and was playing around with that, put out decent sound thru a pair of 4 inch cerwin vegas. Might be a route to follow. Pain in the ass though is that the speaker base uses 4 AAA, gonna try and mod it to take one 9V.
 
Exactly the same speaker deck that's in the link, didn't see that thread before. It will work, I just wonder how much more power the Radio Shack amp would put out.
 
I built one from the cana kit, works fine with an mp3 player jacked in and the mp3's off of Varmint Al's site. When I bought my foxpro I put it on the shelf and it hasnt been used since
 
Hey, I ordered the speaker (Speco SPC5, 8 ohm) off of a website from a surveillance company somewhere in NY. Got it shipped to a parcel service right across the border to save on shipping. Only cost about $6 for the speaker but the shipping was quite a bit more.
I could have driven to Grand Forks, ND for the amp but I didn't have time so I finally found the same Radio Shack mini amp at a company in the UK called T2 retail. I haven't got it yet but hopefully soon. Not sure what the price difference will be since it was all in £s so I'd have to check my credit card. Seemed like a good price and reasonable shipping. I'll try to post more info on the project as it progresses.

Mod it to accept a 6V battery (lantern battery) Longer run time, no voltage concerns (4X AAA = 6V)
 
Check your hunting regs. Electronic callers aren't legal everywhere. Could have sworn I saw something about 'em not being legal in Ontario.
"...The Source..." Yep. That is Radio Shack. They aren't the only place for electronic stuff though. Where you are in Nova Scotia matters too.

I luckily had two, the first one was ripped apart and hooked to a 9v, problem was that the wires running to the board are so thin and flimsy it came off. It worked fine with the 9V though, can't comment if it put out more sound though. But the lantern battery is a great idea since I could see it lasting a lot longer. Bonus to a 9V is cost (dollarama) and availabilty.
