Fellows,

I'm thinking that I want to get into parkerizing, but I need a full length tank to do barrelled actions. Does anyone have any tricks for a home-made tank, or a source for pre-made tanks on the cheap. The best I could find on the internet is $140 + shipping from the USA, which is going to cost me about $200 all-in to get it to me up north. Anyone have any less expensive ideas?

Thanks!

I went 5"x5"x36" 18Ga Stainless, they had it ready in a week.
Fits the stovetop just fine over two burners. What the ole lady don't know won't hurt me............!!

Thanks, I think my search for a reasonably priced solution has ended. I think I'll go with the dimentions you used; I took my original dimensions off a commercial unit on the internet but I can't imagine needing more than 36" long. My first project will be a bit of a long one; a full length CG63 in 6.5x55 that really needs new finish. Once it is all done up it should be a great long range wolf gun.

"...original dimensions off a commercial unit..." Yep. The tank is the easy part though. The heating and temperature control part can be tricky. Propane is your friend.

I've done a few parkerizing jobs so far. Stove top works perfectly, pistols and small parts in Pyrex. Rifle barreled actions in the stainless tank. Use a meat thermometer to keep an eye on the temperatures. The stuff I use works fine from 120 F to 160 F.
Not complicated in the least, if you can fry an egg you can parkerize. Critical part is keeping your metal parts from being contaminated with oil from finger prints. Rubber gloves are a must.

so..... where does one find a supplier for parkerizing solutions? I have 2 rifles and some misc parts i want to do.
