Home Made Shooting Gongs

I made up this paddle wheel out of AR plate(not sure which type) 308 would go through at 100 but not two hundred.

I have some hardox 450,500 crops. I'm going to make up some more.
 
I bought a bit of 1/2" AR plate that seems bullet proof....Can't tell you what it is, but I can call you it cost $250.00 for a 1X4 foot piece. Then I had it cut to size then chain mounting holes with a water jet....Another $40.00
My 338 Edge managed tiny dents while a 50 BMG slightly contorted the plate and blew some paint off.

The plate has a distinctive high pitched ring when struck.
Standard plate sounds dead in comparison.
 
What is the best way to secure the plate to the over head poll to achieve that "RING"?
I have tried 1" SS bar as well as chain, although plates were just mild steel, there was no "RING".
I also have some hard faced gates from valves that I will be shooting soon, so I hope they will ring (probably just crack)
 
i use scandia 100 or 400 in different thickness for different calibers models made as chickens , bears , cowboys . etc. i am a welder not quite retired . thanks
