Thought I'd share a project I just finished up. It's a single shot, falling block of my own design.

Made from 4140 prehard, with a barrel turned from a green mountain blank.
Barrel is 14", overal length is 27 3/4". Weight is 4.5#, including the sling, with a round in the chamber.

Chambered for 45 colt, using a homemade "D" style reamer, cut to minimum chamber specs for long case life.

Stock is black walnut with my attempt to replicate the old "Winchester red"

Cheers,
Stomp

Couple pics of a 300# plus black bear taken with this rifle prior to final finishing. Cast bullet 280 grains at 1100FPS.

Gorgeous!!! I especially love the load you used. I have some 310 gr Flat Nose loaded to 1000 fps with Black Powder, I expect they'd do about as well as your loading. Great looking rifle too!!!

Awesome Build there ! Thxs for Sharing ! RJ

Question for you - How did you settle on a 45 Long Colt for a cartridge ? Old time Fav ? RJ

Basically, yes. I've used various 45 colt carbines for many years.

As to the tools used, mostly lathe work, with a 4 jaw chuck, plus drill press, files and hand tools. Also I made a milling attachment for my lathe to do some light milling. Saved some filing and hacksaw work.

Thanks,
Stomp:)

There is a whole lot of careful work done there to come up with such an elegant and handy package. Very well done indeed.

I like that graceful hammer spur. It is much easier to gaze upon it rather than to create it.

Man ! That is amazing. It looks like a frikken work of art, from the butt plate to the muzzle. I really like the colour you chose for the furniture - really classy. Beautiful work, Stomp.
