Yup, deep relief engraving, almost full coverage. I'll post pics this evening.

Here're a few pics of the full size version of my rifle. Chambered in 45-70, 22" green mountain octagon barrel, English walnut stock, finished weight 8.5#. Engraving is my own, done with hammer and chisel.

I think it was about 3 weeks of engraving, working pretty steady at it.

Wow. That engraving is impressive, hell, the whole rifle is impressive. And who can't but fall for an octagon barrel?

If you build anything else, definitely keep us updated, as clearly you have talent.

I am doubly impressed by your work, 1st the quality, second the ability to make something out of 4140 hardened state billets. I mistakenly bought a bar od hardened 4140 one time for a project and my lathe (1440 Taiwanese manuf.) just bucked 7 complained every time I tried a cut.

Basically self taught the engraving. You tube videos and a couple engraving forums helped a lot.

That engraving is really cool, I wish I had the artistic talent to do stuff like that. My grandpa was a very talented wood carver in Norway, taught at university and was invited to the USA to teach for a while. The artistic side seems to not be genetic.

I love your work. I especially love the simple plain .45 colt carbine. While your engraving is 2nd to none, I prefer the plain look of the .45.
Any thought on building another one for someone else?

Thanks guys, as to building for someone else, I believe it requires a manufacturing license. Not sure what all that entails. It's a good hobby though.
