That be a solid piece of great build fer sure! Ye even got the Winchester red color right to boot.
I can easily see that bugger tossin' 325 gr hardcast at 1500 fps without worries about the brass or rifle construction.
Beauty job & nice bear dumpin'.
You are a 1 of dude. Very fine work. Love the engraving. Artistic like!!
I too love the single shots but my shoulder not so much. Tore a faucet joint in my L3.
Presently leaning toward semi's now to absorb recoil.
As others have expressed, WOW! That is some talent right there, I’m inspired to start some hobby work after seeing what is possible when someone puts some attention to detail into handcrafts. Outstanding!

Encore Metals in Canada also sells 4140 HT at a good price; comes with mill test reports. 1.25" and up they'll sell in 1' increments. 1" and below you have to buy the entire 20' stick but they'll buck it up for you to fit in your truck bed.
Shell Shucker, I tried a few loads that were hotter in this little colt. Recoil becomes rather "brisk" at only 4.5#, but the potential for more power is definitely there. The Colt is a very versatile cartridge in a strong action.
If I need more power, I take the 45-70 loaded with 500 grain bullets.
Just noticed yer 45-70 build. Holy crap that's nice work! I reckon ye could turn your hobby into a full time job if the circumstances be right.
Vostrovia!

That's some incredible craftsmanship! I don't think there are too many people around that that have all the skills required to build such a beautiful gun. From the machining and woodworking, to the engraving, you have some remarkable talents.
Thank you Ted for bringing this thread back!! I know you did it for me and my love of falling block/single shot rifles !! Really nice built indeed, just the right amount of everything not too much just perfect!! I think I would have it in an other caliber but that is just me!! Impressive man!!
I was looking for this thread and another one just the other day. For quite some time now I've been thinking I should have a falling block single shot of some type. Just yesterday the gears were turning a bit, I've got a couple 10/22 barrels and a decent amount of 38 special brass. It might be an interesting project to come up with something like a 22 jet, but with a sharper shoulder angle and less taper.
