has anyone here had any luck on making there own 7.62x39 brass using another caliber? i know RCBS makes a custom sizing die to turn .30-06/.308 brass into 7.62's but the die is $609. using a old hornady die i almost made one using a .308 win brass but the base is to fat so it wont resize properly:mad:
are there anyother calibers that are cheaper and almost the same as 7.62x39 that can be re-sized?

6x5x54MS and 6.5x52MC can be sized and trimmed.
Doesn't help much.
.220 Russian and 6mmPPC are 7.62x39 based, but that is no help either.
Fortunately 7.62x39 ammunition and components are readily available.

There's no point in forming 7.62x39 brass from anything. Brass and military surplus are cheap and easily available.
You'll have to turn down the case heads and rims to match from .308/30-06 cases. It's a long way around with expensive forming dies on top, then case and neck annealing.

not surprised but its still disapointing. i was hoping to find a way around the somewhat high price of X39 brass, but all i found were higher prices. still cheaper and esier to buy the x39 brass :(
