homemade atv gun rack

bump, because I kinda need to know this info ASAP.

Anyone in Northern Ontario can confirm that it is legal or illegal to use a gun rack on an ATV? Not very practical if I have to put a trigger lock on it when I am on the bike, if so I will not use one. But the regs are very hard to understand in this aspect.

Help!?

Only reg. I know is the encased when dark (1/2 hour before and after-rise-set)...use a gun sock.

Why would you have to trigger lock it?...it's not required. :)

Hey Beefman,

I want to put a gun rack on my bike so I can just grab my gun, load it and shoot it with in seconds if needed. If I used a sock, then I may as well get a gun boot, but that is not what I want "hence the rack for quick access"

I understand the half hour before and after rule. But the ATV gun laws are very vague and I can not understand them :S they don't give any info really.

Does anyone know for sure if it is legal to drive around with a gun on a gun rack providing your on the bike and not leaving the gun there on the bike when your not near it?

I want to buy these nice Koplin grips but don't really want to if it is illegal

Yup...it's legal (unloaded of course). ;)

ATV's are considered motor vehicles...so don't have your gun loaded and in the rack. (or even leaning up against it, when stopped). :)

You can legally carry a firearm on your ATV in a gun-boot, on your back, or using the fin-grips. However, you cannot leave your firearm in the fin-grips if you are not within arms reach of it, ie: if you go into the house or a camp, you have to take it with you.

Whereas, with the gun-boot, you can leave it on the bike and just throw a pad-lock on it and the mount...In that sense, it is like locking it in your car...

You can buy the Mad-Dog fin-grips at Canadian Tire...

Totally aware of that :)

I used to always stick my gun on my back using the sling that is on it, never had a problem but never seen a cop or MNR either while doing so, so just wanted to make sure that I would be ok with a gun rack :)

Just ordered a set of the Koplin Gun Grips II. Was going to go with the Koplin Gear Grips but heard from a lot of people that the bases are weak on them and break in the cold weather "here it gets as cold as -55" So I decided to go with the Koplin Gun Grips II as they have 5 star reviews on em.

Will let anyone who is interested in purchasing a set know how they work once I get them :)

I know iam late on posting put thought i post anyways
My dad didnt want a gun boot for his atv either so made him one using old oar locks
patted them with fabric i just sewed together a sleeve to put on the fount left the lactch that when across the top( spring loaded kind ) just basicly a wire that go over the top
kept the barrel in place really well . the the back I just added some plastic pvc piping to the side and again made a nice sleve for it to stop the gun from getting scratched the side are hight enuf the gun never falls out,to get it out just pick the gun up and pull straight back he loved it till he sold his atv and forgot to take it off now I have to build a new one lol
priced it all our new and cost me 14$ for everything

Nothing fancy, cheap and gets the job done.
