Homemade hydraulic cylinder mortar or cannon

I have seen plans for making a cannon or mortar out of a used hydraulic cylinder. Is this something people up here actually do or is it just a bad idea?

a lot of the answer depends on what sort of cannon you intend to make and how strong a breach assembly you intend to use. One of my cannons is made from 1" ID and 2" OD seamless tubing with the breach plug threaded in for 1 1/2"

mine fires soup cans in a mortar style cannon.

maybe clunk will post pics of his, its cooler than cool. a few other members have them too.
