Homemade tumbler... Who's made one?

I have all kinds of stuff in the garage, and I actually have breadmaker as well, it ben used twice. Perhaps its time to repurpose it into something useful.

I made a wooden bracket that I fastened to a treadmill with two C clamps. It works like a charm, it has speed control and a timer, what more do you need. I used a plastic drum from a weed sprayer, and if I wanted to get a couple more drums, the treadmill would have had room for three drums turning at a time. Cost was zero, and about an hour of time.

Well, I just solved my what motor to use problem! Considering the fact that the treadmill is affectionately known as the "clothes drier", I'm pretty sure I can get away with it.

You don't have to do any modification at all to the treadmill. All you need to do is make a backstop for the drum to roll against.

I just picked up a motorized treadmill for free. It was in a fire in a family member's house and I just have a lot of cleaning to do to it before I start to Mcgyver it into a homemade wet tumbler. Now to decide on something for a tumbling drum........hmmm. What ever I come up with, do I have to but adgitators ((or baffles of some sort) inside?

Thats how I got my treadmill as well, you can't beat that! For my drum I used a plastic weedsprayer tank. I removed the pump and plunger, plugged it, and pop riveted two pieces of plastic "angle iron" inside the drum.

The weed sprayer tank will work excellent for you, its made of fairly thick abs plastic and is very tough. To help it grip on the treadmill belt I put a couple of big elastic bands around the tank. The beige thick ones that were used to hold up your hockey socks.

I took a printer apart and found that the paper feed had two geared rollers a
With a small 12 volt meter . I first used a spaghetti jar with a hand grip as a barrel but moved to a 4 " abs pipe and glued paddles inside to work like a concrete mixer. Easily tumbles 150 9 ,mm shels. I tumble in water dish soap and lemon shine with stainless steel scrubbers ( cut up). Want pics send me your email. Oh cost was $12 for abs and caps. Printer was free from local computer guy.

Got the treadmill for free on Kijiji since it was "broken". Didn't power on at first, but all I did was reseat the fuses and at started up just fine. Moved up the idle roller brackets, so all that's left is cutting down the frame.

I've got a bunch of empty protein powder containers, which will work perfectly after gluing in some agitators made from the plastic bits of the treadmill. I'm going to make the running deck into a workbench for my apartment, and the leftover chunks of the frame should make sturdy target stands. It's important to make use of every part of the treadmill.
