Hi CGN'ers, I'm posting these photos of my CZ 858 project that I just finished this week. First off, I want to offer a Huge thanks to Hunter709 for helping me with parts I needed to put this together. Earlier I posted a thread asking for a couple of small parts and he stepped up and sent them to me no charge, not even the postage. All he asked of me was to show him a picture when I was done. His generosity inspired me to do the same if I can ever help someone else in a similar type situation without hesitation. So here are a few photos of the buttstock build, unfortunately I didn't take photos of the handguards and pistol grip when building those.

Here are the other parts I made last spring.

All my parts started off with hardware store maple boards glued together to get the proper width. About $15 total.

Then I cut out the rough shape with my band saw.

The first part of fitting these parts is to mill, or carve the parts that fit to metal parts or to the gun.

At this point I can drill the holes, which is the hardest part. This is the part where you make or break the project. I drew an outline of where the bolt would be in the stock to determine the depth I would need to drill.

Here is a pic with the bolt in the stock and some test fit photos.

Next thing I did was mill the stock down to the proper width.

Then a little cutting and sanding.

And now the finished photo after stain.

So, this is not a how-to thread but merely a guide or inspiration for anyone wanting to tackle something like this as a project. I am not a all a wood worker, its my first time making something like this The tools I used are my drill, band saw, drill press(with milling table and milling bits) and belt sander.
Hope you enjoyed!

LOL

Nice, makes me think of the ones a buddy and myself did

LMAO that literally cracked me up!
Nice work. I notice a few things however. The butt is on a helluva angle but livable I guess and the butt bolt extends into the receiver by quite a bit by how much is showing but the lock washer should take up a little. Overall a pretty good job your hand guards and grips are great work. Keep on building!

I just bought mine, so no manly work went into it... just flashing my credit card. Oiled Walnut looks fantastic. Ironwood Designs makes beautiful, perfect wood for the VZ58.

Thanks guys! Bfiles, your rifles inspired me to go with wood furniture, my first idea was to go tactical but after seeing those beautiful wooden rifles I quickly changed my direction on that. And seeing it would cost around $200 for ironwood furniture, I thought it would be worth trying to build them myself. Plus I wanted to go with an AK47/VZ look.
ButtWhat, here is another pic for you. The previous photo makes the stock look low, this one looks better. Plus, any higher I wouldn't be able to get my eye low enough to line up the sights. And the butt bolt is exactly flush inside the receiver with the washer.

how much time did it take and how much have you invested (tools aside). I am considering doing this since other options are way too expensive for what it is (250$ for wood pieces F that, i'll make it)

Its much more expensive to aquire all the stuff you need then it is to buy one already made.

You wanna play?????

You gotta pay.

If not dont b!tch

I spent about $20 for the wood plus the stain and clear. I have about 20 hours into the project. If you need to buy tools then it gets expensive, but the tools you keep for ever.

Very very nice job . As I have no wood skills I'm just going to end up buying mine , once I can loosen up some cabbage .
