Hooked on IDPA

it is only an equipment race if you make it that way, IMHO. I am going to shoot a few matches this year in IPSC production division using a coat or vest of some type, and a regular bladetech belt holster and old fobus mag pouches; just for fun = which it should be. The only thing I refuse to do is "only" do mag changes behind cover, or not drop mags.

Go for it and have fun. Show them how it's done.:D :D

having a ton of experience in both, I prefer IPSC, it's very cut and dried compared to IDPA. IDPA has too much "interpretation" involved in it's application of certain rules. That and the whole "it's more tactical" nonsense.

IDPA is a game just like IPSC. Both have rules. Both are fun. One is closer that\n the other to real defensive shooting but both are games. I have, like you, a preference but enjoy both.

Take Care

IDPA is even better if you have a prohibited license and shoot with a snubby revolver or auto. For most shooters who only got into the game, they are relegated to their full size restricted gun. Time to take out the 5 shooter 2 inch snubby to play!!

I have run a club version of IPDA called Defensive Pistol League at my club since 2002 and we have been having a blast since then, but thanks to all the new "changes" on the part of our CFO and the preasure they got from the Liberal Governemnet here, we had to shut it down for almost a year and a half. We have now completed all the necessary upgrades and we have three CSSA/CDPA approved instructors and are now finishing off the final touches for our first CDPA course for the club. IPDA and what ever other things we are calling it, is very much alive in Canada and a hell of a lot more fun then IPSC, some one said it right, a few more rules, but a lot less BS. On the 12(6) issue, I always bring a snubby or a sub-compact auto for a backup shoot stage, this allows all shooters to participate and no one has ever had a bad time, well there were a few who tried to circumvent the night, but they were gone before it started.

Again, having shot a ton of both, they are both fun, neither are anymore realistic than the other (no one is shooting back at you, and we've tried that too). If you have fun doing one, give 'er, hell shoot Cowboy if that's your thing.
