Yes:
Hornady 168 is secant ogive (very sensitive to seating depth) and very stable in transonic zone (shots well past 600 yards)
Sierra 168 MatchKing is tangent ogive (very easy to develop an accuracy load) and is unstable in transonic zone (often unstable/tumbling past 600 yards).

My advice is this try the Sierra 175 MatchKing which was developped for the US Army has solved all of the 168 SMK's problems.

hum...well, my range is 300 meter max so i dont think i will need to worry about that for now.
So, in general the sierra 168 would be much beginner friendly eh?
Do you have any experience with the horandy 150 gr fmjbt ?

Out of curiosity I once weighed 100 each of Hornady and Sierra 168s. The Hornady's varied as much as 3 grains +/- while the Sierra's were all within 1 grain of nominal. Don't know what good this information is to you but thought I would pass it on. I sent an email to Hornady and included my data but never got a response.

i tried / used the 168 hornadys and i THOUGHT they shot good from my factory 5r, tried different seating depth etc, then i tried the 175smk and it made my 168 groups look like garbage,

id buy a box of both and see what your rifle likes

The SMK's perform very well for me in 7mm, in 130, 150 and 168.

I tried Hornady also.

I never thought I would see such a difference in accuracy. The SMK's grouped amazingly well compared to the Hornady.

But, every rifle is different. As stated earlier I also find the SMK's much less sensitive the changes of the load specifics.
