I picked up two boxes of the .308 178gr ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo to test in my R700 SPS tactical. Is anyone else using this ammo or reloading these bullets and what results have you seen. Do these expand as advertised, is the velocity in the ballpark etc?

I'm booked off work to go for Moose and Black bear in Northern Ontario this coming fall and want to now practical ranges I should be confirming I'm on target at. I know the accuracy of the ammo and my firearm are probably beyond what I"m comfortable with (400 yards no issue).
 
I hunt with the Hornady Interbond 165gr and have shot the Hornady GMX 165gr in 308. Both extremely accurate.
Have shot both at the 300 yard range, both MOA, using R700 SPS Tacticals and M7's.
The Interbond has performed well on deer over the years.
Last season, boiler room broadside shot at 132 yards on a decent buck, first time no blood trail. Tracked in fresh snow (under 60 yards down a steep hill) to find deer down. Finger size hole entry & 1.25" exit wound. Bullet did its job, just no blood on this one..

The ELD-X shoots very well a friends .270 I load for. I am sure that odds are you'll be satisfied if they shoot well and you can put one behind the shoulder into the important bits. I suspect at the velocities a .308 will be generating you'll see results similar to any other soft cup and core bullet. The whitetail and black bear he killed last year did not travel far but only the deer got an exit and neither hit any major bones. Never found the one in the bear but a few fragments against the opposite ribs. There was a fair bit of bloodshot meat on both but no more drastic then a 130 ballistic tip at close range would have done.
Short version, avoid any large bones and raking shots and you will need a sharp knife.

If you are comfortable to 400 yards that’s lots. Not very good odds you’ll be getting a shot anywhere near that, especially with the bear over bait
 
I really like the .308 178gr ELD-x...so does my rifle. On paper it shot tight and It dropped my first black bear pretty quick last spring at about 75yrds.
 
Just picked some up a week ago after my buddy was shooting amazing groups with the new ammo. We've both been shooting Hornady Super Performance (150gr). I'm going to head to the range within the next couple of weeks to sight in and test so I'll let you know how it goes.
 
Shot some of that hornady ammo in my buddies 300 win. It was the 200gr variety. Shot awesome and hammered steel at 300m(farthest the range near my place goes to)

I load 162gr in my 7mm-08 accurate b no animals to show yet. Hopefully this fall.
