Sounds funny but that is what I have. My 1940 Mosin-Nagant will shoot beautiful horizontal lines every time. Each line is about 2-3 inches long at 100 yds and you can put a ruler to them they are that straight. I think its the repro scope mount jiggling back and forth seeing as its just held in there with a thumb screw. I did epoxy the scope mount base to the receiver so there is no wiggle there. Has anyone seen this before?

It can be a shift in the bedding: extra space, allowing the action to move sideways in the stock. Cure is a small bit of Acra-Glas, properly placed and cured.

You don't mention how many shots you are putting into a string.

The MN has a funny quirk that will surface on some rifles. As the barrel heats up, bullets will drift in the direction of rotation.

I have a MN sniper that isn't a repro and really looks like its BTDT. The first two shots from a cold barrel go directly to POA. Then on the third shot, the bullet strike is 1 cm to the right. The fourth shot is almost 3cm to the right and the fifth round is very close to the fourth but still a bit further right.

Nothing seems to be awry, just a quirk of this particular rifle. I have taken the barreled receiver out of the original stock and put it into another stock that the rifle in it shoots very well. Still does the same thing. I have soot blackened the receiver and barrel in the original stock to see if there are any rub marks. Nothing. Just the nature of that particular beast.

I have a mod 70 win in 338-06 that does exactly the same thing. At 300 meters it will actually drift right about 6 inches after the 2nd shot.

smellie gives good advice but in a collectable rifle, not a particularly desirable cure. I have the receiver of the M70 fully glass bedded and it doesn't make the least bit of difference. I even tried to put a bit more torque on the barrel.

BEARHUNTER, that is a barrel which has not been properly stress-relieved. My buddy Gavin had a rifle that was doing that. He stripped it and dumped the barreled receiver into the deep-freeze for a week. There was definitely measurable improvement. Worth trying, perhaps.
