I have a chance to pick up several hundred Hornady 117 BTSP at a very low price, I usually use the 120 HP in my 25-06 rifles. Any one have any opinions on the 117's how are they for mule deer? do they hold together well enough? accuracy? any opinions would be appreciated.

The Ballistic Coefficient is .391
These loads were extracted from Sierra where they list the 117 and 120 grain bullets so you should be okay using a starting load for your 120 grain HP's.
Accuracy Load: RE-22/ 50.5grs. 3100fps/ 2561ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: IMR-4831/ 50.9grs. 3100fps/ 2561ft. lbs.
Interesting the hunting and accuracy load are the same for velocity.
With 51 grain of Re22 my load is averaging 2920.

I have a 25-06, a 257 AI,and a 257 roberts and I have yet to find a satisfactory powder that gives me inch or less groups in my rifles. My 25-06 loves the 120gr HP bullet and I took an antelope at just over 300 yards with this bullet on tuesday. You may find a great load for your rifle but how much more performance do you think you will get from 117gr vs what your current load is doing for you? FS
