Guys
Looking for some experienced input here please.

I have been doing up a load for my Ruger 308 RPR using Hornady 165 SST's, I haven't got it fully dialled in yet but its looking promising around 46.1 g of N150. I was running low on projectiles so i went to my local guy to pick up some more but he didn't have any. He said "here use these" and handed me a box of 167 Scenars saying they would be the same only more accurate and i can use the same powder charge as the Hornadys. HUH???? The Hornady manual list max at 46.1 g of N150 powder for 165 SST and Lapua list max at 44.6 for their 167 Scenars. Seems like a huge difference in max loads between the two so how/why would the Lapua be safe and more accurate with same powder charge as the Hornadys?

Work the load up from scratch using the new data, you might find that they are more accurate or less accurate but with that big of discrepancy you definitely need to start over. I went from 165ttsx to 168ttsx and when I was finished working the load up, it was very similar but I actually used more powder. I did not just assume I could shove powder in a case and have the same results and I don't suggest you do either.

What is the rifle used for? If it is a paper puncher, the Scenar is a good bullet. If it is to be a hunting load, the Hornady is the choice.

"Max" refers to the load in the rifle they used. "Max" for your rifle could be more or less. Start at 43 and test 5 each in 0.5 gr increments, to get a feel of accuracy and where pressure signs start.
