Hornady 325 FTX

PB meat is best cooked in someone else's house. It is dark dark red meat , as their diet is mostly seal the meat is oily and strong tasting, I don't like it.

I have shot 2 animals with my 45-70 with the 325 FTX bullet a 5 pt Whitey and a 250 lb Blackie - both died but the bullet did not exit either and it mushrooms HUGHLY and also shed 100-125 grs of weight- Pentration is not good. The deer dies in its tracks as it was shot throught the neck and the bullet hit its spline - the bear in the lungs - did not exit and ran about 100 yards deep into the BUSH ! I don't like going after bears in the thick dark bush ! Ok bullet for deer sized non dangerous game but there are a " LOT's of BETTER " bullets to kill things with ! jmo RJ

Don't agree with Boomer on this one... in my .45/70's the .325 FTX proved to be the most accurate bullet I tried... and on stacks of wet news paper and pine, they stayed together and penetrated well... I did not shoot game with them, but based on what I saw, I would be confident using them on deer, black Bear, elk and moose... I would probably choose a heavier and tougher bullet for big bears or bison.

My tests of bullets out of my 45-70 " proved to ME only " that the FTX 325 is a POOR bullet for penetration - I have shoots dozens of different brand and weight bullets into fir blocks and the FTX is a POOR performer ! I found the jackets shedded on lots of my samples and the bullets lost a lot of weight . The 250 gr Horn GMX bullet penetrated way further then the FTX as does the Horn 350 gr & any Hard cast bullets - the 405 Rem is about the same for pentration - the 400 Speer is much better . I would use them( FTX 325) my self for lung shots on any of the deer family but i much Prefer many different other bullets - Again JMO ;) RJ

I had a Marlin 1895GS that I gave my Son in the B.C. central interior,;) not far from you rj:).

I've since ;)replaced it with a Marlin GBL and a BFR.

I haven't yet done much testing with my latest acquisitions, but I have a fair selection of 45 cal cast and jacketed bullets available. :)Probably better than what I have available for reloads in any other calibre.

In the 1895GS, my preference was for the 420gr cast and the 405gr Remington jacketed.

Thanks guys, my go to work rifle is my 45-70 with 420 & 480 cast bullets. But this 450 came along and you know I just gotta try it out. Looking for data for 405 Rem. bullets as I have a lot of them.
