Hornady A-Max

Hornady used to say that the A-Max was an acceptable bullet for light skin game like deer but in the last few years they have changed their position and no longer recommends them.

Personally, I think there is so many good hunting bullets these day that I wouldn`t choose a target bullet for hunting. If you want something close to the A-Max, try the SST.

AFAIK the a-max is considered a target bullet.. the closest thing to it ballistics wise, is the 150gr SST.. I've shot several deer with that bullet with good results.

I have done gelatin testing with the Amax. For a target bullet, it mushrooms quite well. Much better than the Sierra.

But why not use a real hunting bullet. An Interlock is hard to beat.

FWIW, I would rather use a 180 on deer. Less meat damage and one bullet/load for all game.

where did you get the gelatin? or do you have a recipe.. i'd like to do some testing on some of my loads.
