Hello all,

I was shooting my Savage Axis 7mm08 today with some Hornady 7mm08 Remington ammuntion. After the 6th shot I had trouble bringing the bolt to the rear. After muscling the bolt back I noticed that there was an empty case stuck in the chamber. I pulled the bolt out and saw that the extractor was loose and I could slide it out just by touching it. I also noticed that the ejector and the ejector spring were missing. I inspected the other 5 ejected casings and 4 of the 5 had popped the primers and had lost of residue on them. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and who to contact about it? As well if anyone knows is this a problem with the ammunition or with my rifle?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Note: I bought the rifle in early 2011 and it has not been fired much. The ammunition was bought in the fall of 2011 and wasn't used until today.

I have heard people say Hornady ammo is hotter than most. Take pictures of everything, document if you can, when and where you bought both the rifle and the ammo. Also take the lot number off of the box of ammo and email all the info to Hornady and CC Savage. Let us know the response. Good luck.

popped the primers on factory hornady ammo in a box?
hot or not, should never ever pop primers out on factory loads.
take the rifle back with the shells and i am sure you will get warrenty out of it excpect it will take awhile to get it back!

I had a similar issue with a Savage model 11 rifle and Federal ammo 3rd shot in a new rifle, it was sent in for warranty and initially I was told the rifle had a head space problem then Savage and Federal each blamed the other, never got a straight answer but the bolt was repaired on warranty, I avoid both companies products now.
