I found this link quite helpful when I was looking for Garand ammo information.

I also talked to the folks over at James River Armoury and was told that any damage to the Garand that they had seen, was done by 180gr or heavier bullets and that they hadn't experienced problems with the lighter weights. They recommended just sticking with a 150gr and a person would be fine.
