First off, I want to say that Henry at Budget Shooter Supply was excellent to deal with, and I will continue to purchase off of him in the future. Service was top-notch.

Now on the the Ammo plant.
So a friend and I went halfs on a Hornady ammo plant, and purchased all of the extra plates, case feeders, dies etc to reload in a few different calibers. So far, right from the factory, one of the Pawls that rotates the drive hub was broken right out of the box. As if that isn't a big enough piss off, We went to go set up the bullet feeder today, and for some reason, it was not rotating. We got out the parts diagram, pulled the plate off the top, and discovered that it is missing a 30 pin gear that rotates the whole bullet feeder. So it is not possible to feed pullets right now( or rotate the press at all for that matter.)

We spent over 1700 dollars on this stuff, for that much money, I expect better quality control . I know people are going to tell me to call Hornady in the morning and they will fix it no questions asked, but now I am going to have to wait for them to ship the parts before I can reload. Not very impressed.

Hornady made a big fail on that one. Hope its not a sign of things to come. I find with rapid expansion of companies, sometimes they bite off more than they can chew and Quality Control takes a big'un up the rump.

I've been having issues with Horndady ammo blowing primers. Called to tell them and was told it must be the soft case. They will replace but seem to have poor QC

I'm a Hornady fanboy but certainly wouldn't be if my first experience had been anything like this ! The warranty service should not be the first thing you get to experience with any new product. That's just a cop out and a fail. It seems Hornady and RCBS have a lot in common. I was hoping the Chinese manufacture of presses wasn't going to be one of them.

I love it when shooters complain that their cheap shytt doesn't work. Buying the best at the start is always cheapest in the long run, and a lot more satisfying.
Dillon, breakfast of champions!

I love it when people are so blind to their own hive-think that they're actually proud of it ;).

Flukes happen. A quick google search and you can find plenty of people who've had problems with Dillon presses as well..

No kidding. I have read a ton of reviews on the Hornady and Dillon and heard plenty of good things and bad things about both. The Dillon doesn't come with a bullet feed, so that is what puts the Hornady over the top in my books.

For that much cash I would expect it to work! Should return it all and setup a 650XL,only problem I've had with mine was
My errors.

Opcx6, you must hang out over at THR where unless you own a Dillon your opinion doesn't count, and they all post everyday with questions about why their Dillons are making :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: ammo.

I reloaded some 204 for my dad with remington primers and had the same result. It was in his new weatherby so he phoned weatherby and they said it was the primers and it was happening a lot. Changed to CFO br4 primers and problem went away.

I'm sorry I had to read about this on CGN. I had no idea that the Ammo Plant didn't work right away. That really is hard to accept.
I have sold lots of Hornady presses & other tools & these types of issues do happen, but very rarely though. Hornady does back up their product extremly well & quickly. I'm sure that the manufacturers have the same problems as they make thousands of presses every year.
I'm sure Hornady will take of of you in a timely manner.
If there is anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to let me know.
Regards, Henry

No worries Henry, the parts are already on the way. It is not something that a distributor would ever catch before selling the press, it is literally a gear inside the bullet feeder that was never installed right from the factory. And the pawl pin is something that I have read lots about on the internet, again, nothing that you would even know to look for. When I called Hornady yesterday morning, they shipped everything immediately.

I am more than happy with the service I recieved from Budget Shooter Supply, a little disappointed with Hornady quality control.

 Well if you REALLY don't like the press and it's that furstrating, I will take it off your hands and won't even charge you to do so... I would even cover the shipping to make it easier to free up the room at your place... :ang3
