Lever action guns and semi autos are known to have issues chambering neck sized ammo, this is why you full length size them.
The 30-30 and most other, not all but most other rimmed cartridges headspace off the rim, the 303 Brit is one where neck sizing saves the brass but the cases pretty much have to be kept for each specific rifle with those huge chambers.
