Hello all,

I just purchased the Hornaday Bullet comparator Basic set. I've been experiencing COL variation across my loads, and I am trying to pinpoint the issue. After reading another similar thread regarding this issue, I purchased the tool that measures consistency from the ogive not the tip of the bullet.

I also have the Hornady OAL guage.

The headspace guage I have says there is a centered position and an off-centered position. When combined with the OAL guage, I am to use the off-center position.

Does anybody know which side to place the brass set-screw for each position? They aren't labelled...

Thanks,
Alec

On the bottom of the red body, there are two half-moon sections with a hole in each. The channel cut in the base for the caliper "blade" isn't in the middle of the base. One half-moon is .306" wide, the other is .243" Putting the setscrew in the wider half will get you off-center, and in the smaller half will be the centered position.
Using the centered position means that the other "blade" of the caliper will be in the center of the primer when you are measuring the OAL to the ogive of a round.

Thank you very much; this completely answers my questions.
