Dies

Don't leave us in suspense here,, why?

I am reloading since at least 20 years ...
so far i have:
11 RCBS Dies
2 Lee Dies
1 Lyman Die
1 Dillon Die
and
2 Hornady Dies (1 in 9mm and 1 in 30/06)

of all this dies, the two Hornady dies are broken (due to poor disign, the 9mm dies used a plastic spacer in the bullet seating die, the spindle in the 30/06 die always slippped and finally broke).
I contacted Hornady to get some parts, however they charge more for the parts then for a new die set!!!
RCBS on the other hand has outstanding customer service and if something goes wrong withtheir dies, they'll send you the parts for free.

If the spindle in your 30/06 is always slipping you might have one of the older version if its smooth you just give them a call and they will ship you the replacement which has grooves free of charge

So far I had great service from Smith and Wesson (they rebuilt my mod.29 new barrel new cylinder new timing , free of any charge)
also had great service from RCBS (they replaced broken parts free of charge, they even sent me a free small cylinder for the uniflow powder messure.
I never expected anything for free, howevver I was pleasantly surprised how this companies stand behind their products.

When I contacted Hornady however they wanted to charge me $34.00 for the broken spindle and a locking nut I wanted to buy at the same time.
Like I said, I do not expect to get anything for free, but to ask $34.00 to replace a broken part from a poorly designed reloading die is the simply ARROGANT!!!
For this money I can buy a new die set anytime anywhere....

They sell hornady dies at wholesale sports.

Yes. On the shelf yesterday. Don't agree that they're "crap", in fact the New Dimension have a very interesting bullet centering design and are probably as accurate at centering a bullet as the most expensive micrometer seaters around. Love to see some of the BR shooters give them an honest try.

As polaris have said, Hornady dies are the only ones that he has had broken, and it has been the same with me. RCBS/Lee, no problem.

Also, on the point of service, after trying to fix the broken Hornady dies for so long, I contacted them but never received a reply!! On the other hand, my friend's Lee press had a small breakage, he called them and received the part in the mail in mere days, free of charge!
