I shot a moose last year with 143gr ELD-X from about 70 yards in 6.5CM. I recovered the bullet in the hide on the exit side and weighed it. It expanded as expected, didn't separate, and retained 73% mass. The moose went about 30 yards and dropped, lung shot with some ribs along the way. That's my only first hand data point for hunting with ELD-X, but it did the trick. I'm planning to deer hunt with that setup this fall, and moving up to 7PRC and 175gr ELD-X for moose.
Update with another data point. I’m moose hunting in Newfoundland with 7PRC and 175 ELD-X I measured at 2967 fps. Results were not good, really not good. I got the moose but it took 5 shots. They’re over expanding big time. One shot was a perfect double lung broadside placement at 225 yards and it didn’t even make it past the ribs. Bullets are just blowing up. I recovered a couple of jackets in the hide and they’re all separated. I had good results with ELD-X at slower speeds. ELD-X, 3000fps, and moose is not a winning combo. I’ll be switching to Barnes or accubonds or something for next year. I’ve never seen bullets do anything like this before.
