Just wondering if anyone has purchased a Hornady Lock and Load machine in the last year and got there free 1000 bullets? The website says in US and Canada but I have seen this before with other stuff until they go to ship it and then you get a nice email stating they don't ship to Canada.

I want to buy a progressive machine that does rifle also so I still haven't decided between Hornady L-n-L or a Dillon 650. I have heard that either machine is about the same to run only Hornady has a hard time getting accessories right now, haven't heard if Dillon is also having problems. 1000 free bullets would certainly sweeten the pot in Hornadys favor that is for sure.

I've heard of many people in Canada getting their bullets, and no stories of anyone getting shafted. I'm just waiting on my bullets, sent off a few weeks ago so hopefully will heard something soon.

rommel: forgot to ask if you had a chance to give the AP a spin yet? I have never used one but seen one on you tube working and it looks neat, just wondering if the 1/2 step at a time thing is a hindrance or a blessing?

I sent away for my free 1000 in the middle of April and I'm still waiting.

They say 8-10 weeks and the mean it!

I sent mine in, in February right before the cut-off for presses bought last year.

Still have not recieved anything.

Will have to give them a call sometime soon I think.

I haven't done any quantity on it yet, but I do have it ready to go for 9mm... I would get it going but I have a lot of 9mm loaded right now, just waiting on my 45 ACP dies and I will give it a good run.

1/2 step indexing seems really smooth so far. Without a case feeder it may even be a touch slower than my 550, only because I'm not sure how to get a good rhythm going putting a case into position 1 and a bullet into 4 (powder check in 3)

May force me to get a case feeder :O

It's a quality press tho, so far I love it. Easy to swap calibers and such, good powder measure. The .355 cal powder thru expander is a challenge however, it doesn't bell the case mouth enough. I'm using the .357 one right now for 9mm, but I have some ideas on how to make the .355 one work.

I for one got their free bullets but so far only in .40S&W.
Since I also bought their dies for 9mm and .40s&w, I could get another 100 free bullets for each die set; ordered 1000 + 100 in .40 and they came, still waiting on 100 of 9mm.

I found my 357 powder through expander just barely flared enough for lead bullets to not quite enough. The .45 expander just plain doesnt flare enough for lead or jacketed. So i've removed my powder cop die for both calibers to make room for the separate expander die. I had to leave the expander bushuing in the powder drop for some reason as the extra length was needed for the casing to drop the powder (the supplied short bushing didnt work - maybe i should be using the longer thinner bushing though, have to check the manual :O ).
I regret buying lee dies because that damn rubber bushinged lock nut is so hard to make fine adjustments with to do a complete flare removal without bulging the casing.

I know what you mean, I bought 30 Hornady Locknut's off of evilbay about a year ago and changed all my lee die sets to lockable ones so there isn't final adjustment every time you remove and replace them.

I haven't heard of Hornady dies not flaring enough, I will have to check that one out. At 40 bucks a box for 30 cal bullets, the 1000 free ones sure take a bit out of the cost of the press over buying a Dillon press. I load for 9mm, 38 S&W, 38 Spl,.357 Mag, 44 Spl, 44 Mag, 45 LC, .455 Webley and I am having a hard time deciding on the L-N-L or the Dillon 650. Presently I am using Lee 1000 machines but I really want a powder check system so I need at least a 5 die setup.

How I work my 1000 machines to check powder is this.
1. I mount only the deprimer/sizer in station 1 and nothing in 2 or 3 and prime all the cases, very quick and I never have to worry about dumping powder in the shell plate that didn't get a primer in the case.

2. I put the older style powder measure(with the big spring) in station 1 and the seater/crimper in station 3.

3. Load up the primed cases and they get flared and powder in station 1. In station 2 (that is empty) I have a light and mirror set up so that when the case is at the top of the throw I can clearly see into the case thru the mirror and make sure there is powder there.

4. Into station 3 as normal for the seat and crimp if needed.

I would love to seat and crimp separately and also have a powder check so hence my ambition to get a 5 station setup.

Well, I got the 355 expander to work for jacketed, don't have any lead to try but it would be tight. What I did was put the expander in first, then put in the shortest drop tube from the powder measure, and then put the powder measure in with the drop tube.

If you force the .355 expander into a case it flares the mouth more than enough, so the trick is getting the press to force the .355 expander in far enough. Some people say that getting the powder measure adjusted down as low as possible is the trick but it didn't work for me, still not enough flare. Putting the extra 1/2 inch of drop tube in allowed me to get enough throw. May still have to use the .357 one to shoot lead tho.

hunter264:
I should have been more clear, it's the hornady powder through expander that is weak on flare, I havent used their dies. If you turn the powder drop down just as far as it goes, to the point you think the powder mic is jamming at the top of the swing, you get a usable crimp.
Also, although you should be ok with the new press, the ejector wire prevents using a lee 45 factory crimp die in sta. 5, even after you grind the die. I've been told the 38 dies can be ground to the point they dont hit the wire but i havent been crimping 38.
