Anyone use these lead bullets in their 50 caliber muzzleloaders? Looking for a cheaper alternative for more casual shooting and if they prove accurate ill use them for deer.
I use 270gr platinum powerbelts for hunting but theyre getting harder to find and approaching 50 bucks for 15

I have shot quite a few deer with those. They work very well, expand well and really penetrate. They were accurate in my rifles, usually with 90 gr eqv of pyrodex or 777 loose powder.

I've shot a few deer with the 425 grain 54 caliber version. They worked really well. No meat damage, but a nice big hole. One of the deer was shot through the heart, and that was still good to eat

Im not a fan of sabots. I prefer an actual 50 cal bullet. I plan to eventually cast my own. I cast my own slugs its just a matter of buying a mold from higginsons
Thanks for the positive reviews. Once it stops raining ill get out and try some

Well i tried these in my rifles. Well 2 of my rifles and the results were from 12" right to to 18" left to couldnt find the 3rd shot. Shooting at a 3x5 target at 50 yards. Decided to stick with my platinum powerbelts and i dropped a nice mature 10point. 15 yards running straight at my stand chasing a giant doe. Crosshairs between his brow tines and the fire and smoke cleared as he slid to a stop. Entered right on the spine where the neck meets the shoukders and traveled the chest and broke into and stopped in what i would call the sterum of the deer. Where the ribs come together just before they start to curve up the chest. The 270gr bullet on top of 2 777 pellets worked perfectly yet again. Im just going to continue to pay the premium. They work perfectly every time

What power? Pellets or loose? I have my best performance with loose powder that I can play with the load. Usually a light load so as not to strip the the bullet in the rifling. Also cograts on the deer. Opens Saturday here.

Congrats on the Deer..
110gr (volume) of BH 209 with the Hornady SST 250gr and/or 300gr sabots, darn accurate recipe for my Muzzleloader.
Hornady SST-ML .50, Pack of 20 - $17 USD

I use 777 pellets. For hunting its just easier and faster.
I use 2 pellets in my in traditions and 3 in my cva. The cva eclispe is rated for magnum loads the buckstalker is not
Both are most accurate with the platinum powerbelts. I use the buckstalker most even though its the least accurate gun i own. 3 shots at 100 yards i get a 3" group. Ive only taken one deer over a 120 yards with a muzzleloader. My average shot is 20 yards so its good enough. I was just hoping for an accurate cheap load. After the season ill likely buy a mould and cast my own and play with powders.

I've had excellent success with both the accuracy and the effectiveness of the Great Plains bullets, in both .50 and .54 caliber. I haven't seen any for sale in awhile and was wondering if they had been discontinued; where do you find them? Never tried them in a scoped gun, but with an aperture sight I can get about a 4-inch group at 100 yards with at least 2 of my rifles and I'm sure my eyesight is the biggest limiting factor.

The Powerbelts shot well for me also, but not quite as accurate as the GP slugs. The only real benefit I can see to them is how much easier they slide down the barrel, way less effort to load than the GP's.

I use only FFg blackpowder, no artificial powders. No heavy charges and no inlines, either. The GP bullets just seem the more appropriate choice to use in a sidehammer traditional gun.
