Hello crew,

I'm wondering if you've shot a Tikka T3 lite stainless in 30.06 with Hornady ballistic tips and if you can suggest either the SST or interlocks. I'm looking for a hunting round that's not wildly expensive so that I can get really consistent with it and I'm very likely not shooting beyond 300/350 yards. (That's where I'm comfortable at a salad plate sized group).

150, 165 and 180 grains are all shooting pretty well the same group size, so... what grain do you shoot with in 30.06? (I'm using IMR 4350)

I realize that a lot of this is academic, since up to 350 yards the variables don't take as much effect.

I've used the SST's with 4320 and 4350 in my Rem 700 LSSF THDM in 30.06. They were pretty good, and I use SST's for my Savage 110B in .338lm all the time. I did find that HDY Amax with 4320 seemed to work better for the 700 than the SSTs. I have been using 150 gr since day 1.

I couldn't get SSTs to group worth a damn in my Tikka (.308, 165gr).
Switched to 168 Amax and it dropped to clover leaves.

How do those SSTs stand up to close range shots at 30-06 speeds?
The AMAX is a taget/varmint round, designed to blow when they hit.
I have some of their #3033 BTSPs that I plan on ramming into some water filled milk jugs to see how they stand up.
They aren't as slippery as the AMAX or SST, but I think they are a bit heavier constructed.

I think you can use the SST to work up a load, then use the more expensive IB to hunt with.
Don't have my load book right here, but I think thay have the same B.C. etc.

Well, each rifle has it's own foibles.

I use the SST Interlocks in 338, 308, 7mm, 6.5mm and 25 cal.

All shoot less than 1/2 minute of angle out to 300+ meters in my rifles.

With the 7mm and 6.5 offerings, 7x162gr and 6.5x140gr. I've shot moose, elk, bears, coyotes and deer. Even an unlucky wolf or two.

The last deer I shot, with the 6.5 was about 25 meters away, just a nice round hole exiting, about 2cm across.

None of them every required more than one shot. I have never recovered a bullet. They held together well enough to fully penetrate, even on moose, right out to 250m.

Now, that being said, a friend of mine with a 300WSM he had built with a 1-12 twist rate, is very fussy about longer bullets. The heavier offerings with BTSP bullets just don't do as well as the lighter offerings, which are usually very accurate.

If your rifle will shoot the SST Interlocks, you will be shooting hunting grade jackets made to match standards.

How do those SSTs stand up to close range shots at 30-06 speeds?.

30 yards easily fist size hole in the boiler room on white tail. That was with a 150gr. I started loading 165gr sst, interbond, and gmx. I use the sst for practice and most likely coyotes and the other 2 bullets for hunting. I use 57gr h4350, win brass, cci primer, and 3.285" col. 3 shots normally into .7" at 100. Speed I get is 2830fps.

Couldn't get the 165 sst to shoot in my tikka 30-06. but the 150 interlocks with 4064 are money, I just use those for paper, would move up to 165 or 180 for hunting. couldn't get the sst to shoot in my 7mm mag tikka either. granted I didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to work with them,
