Hornady Leverevolution

I picked up a couple of boxes of the 325 gr .45-70 ammo for a pal while I was down south. As far as I know he hasn't shot it yet, so I can't comment on accuracy or recoil. Seems to me the price was about $68.00 for 2 boxes once the tax was added.

Now that I've seen this ammo, I am not at all convinced that it would be any safer in a tube magazine than any other ammo loaded with a pointed bullet. Yes I know what the folks at Hornady say, but the tip appears to be nearly as stiff as the tip of a ballistic tip, and in my opinion under the right circumstances a pointy nylon tip could still set off the round ahead of it in a tube magazine.

The .45-70 is a good medium range big game round when loaded with heavy flat nosed bullets. A pointed bullet creating a smaller entrance wound is not going to improve the performance of the round. As for the flatter trajectory, and I doubt if many could make use of the difference under real world hunting conditions. But again this is conjecture as we have not tested the stuff yet.

I'm pretty sure this would have been tested quite throughly, as Horandy has no interest in paying out a multi million dollar wrongful death suit.

Perhaps, but if someone wants to donate a Marlin, I'll bet I can create the conditions which would cause a Leverlution round to fire a round ahead of it in tube magazine.

Could be that Hornady's bean counters are rolling the dice.

I heard that ALsimmons in hamilton ont carrys the ammo your looking for . not sure of the price but a buddy of mine said he saw it there and it was;nt to pricey. he;s closed on mondays.

I read a report on the testing of this ammo in a rifle magazine some time back I belive the tests included droping a fully loadded frozen rifle 10-20 ft on the butt on concrete. this was only one of the tests that impressed me. it was a long time ago that i read the artical and may not be tottaly correct but i belive they destroyed over 50 rifles in testing.

I seriously doubt that Hornady would set themselves up for a potential lawsuit by "rolling the dice", thats just rediculous.

In what way are you going to cause the round to fire when Hornady has tested these rounds extensively and haven't had that happen?

I've shot the .30-30 rounds and don't worry about it, its a good round.

30-30 Go B00M

I've shot the 30-30 in my pre-60's Model 94. The stuff packs a wallop for lever ammo. Bears would definitely not be a problem. Love it!

Russel sports told me the .45-70 ammunition wasn't approved in Canada yet  apparently the Wholesale Sports influence is bleeding through.

I went down the street and bought 5 boxes at the Canadian Tire. I haven't tried it at distances longer than 100m yet, but it's accurate as hell out to there as you'd expect.

I bought a few boxes of 30-30 at SIR $20/box I believe, even with shipping it wasn't too bad (if you are going to mailorder, 5 boxes seems to get the best rate for shipping)

My buddy shot a bear with his, 190lbs and vaporized the heart.
