What's the opinion on using these say for loading case bullets in a 45-70? Safe not safe? I know that they are shorter than the standard case length but is it ok to use or not.

Seems to me I tinkered with these in a Handi rifle. IIRC, they are .1? or something shorter, so you can't crimp the bullet right. I think I got around this by running it back up into the sizing die, not anywhere near the full length. This hammered out the belling so it would feed. Which rifle?

Of Course they are SAFE ! - 1000's are shot off all the time ! the only reason they are shorter then the std 45-70 brass is to allow the bubble gum tipped bullets to be the right oal ( crimping in the cannelure) so they will feed thru the Marlins and others ! It dones not matter wht the brass lenght is - its the Over All lenght that matters ! :)

I have been buying/shooting a lot of this ammo because it is cheaper then other brands . Because it is shorter brass my shooting partner tells me I am causing a "burnhole" in my ruger #1 and shortning the life of my barrel shooting this brand . Any truth in this.

i know the brass is safe it is more of a do " you " feel ist safe to use the cases to load bullets other than the hornady lipstick rounds. And as far as puting a crimp on yes ive notice mt factory crimp die wont touch it but i may see if my lee loader would put a little crimp on there. I will be using my 1895 SBL for those concerned with the type of gun used

Your shooting partner is an idiot.

Considering cast bullet loads usually start at a reduced pressure normally, I wouldn't see a problem. I'd crimp in the crimp groove and not worry about the OAL. Start low and work your load up and there shouldn't be any problems other than the crimping one already mentioned.

If I had a lot of the shorter Hornady brass I might try to figure out the crimping issue but since I have a mountain of proper length WW and RP 45-70 brass I just put all the Hornady in a ziploc bag in my random brass box (for cases I don't use but aren't scrap).

Shorter brass will leave carbon rings in your chamber but these clean out with normal cleaning procedures. It's the same effect as when 357/44 special rounds are fired in a 357/44 magnum chamber.
