Has anyone had experiences with the light mags? Are they much better than the regular custom ammo? Cost difference is not a factor. I have a new A7 7mm-08 that I'm going to sight in very soon and set up for hunting. Also have a 243 and 308 and 30-06 that I could go with the light mag ammo if it is much better than the reg. Would like to hear your experiences and opinions. Thx.

I had some. It goes a tad faster, and shot into the smallest groups I've ever had from factory ammo. Consistently. And, for what it's worth, the velocities were very consistent as well. But, Hornady techs say they had to do compressed loads, and that was problematical for mass production - bullet slip, powder spills, not fun in a plant - and now, their new SuperPerformance stuff is consistently faster, supposedly accurate, and is not only not a compressed charge, it is consistently below SAAMI specs for pressure. They are introducing it in most popular calibers first, and I reckon it will be while before it is commonly available in gunshops, but I'd like to give it a try.

In the meantime, if you find some Light Magnum, in sufficient numbers to sight your rifle, test true trajectory, and still go hunting, go for it. You won't be disappointed. Poorer, but not disappointed.

I tried the 308win and 30-06 light magnums in three rifles(two 308win,one 30-06),and none reached the advertised velocity. However ,accuracy was only so-so in one rifle, and poor in the other two rifles.

I ran some of it in 308 through a ballistic lab. Velocity was about 200 fps faster and pressure the same as other 308. Impressive stuff.

They load about 56gr of slow ball powder in a straight wall case and compress it whil it is in a die. then they neck the case and insert bullet.

I use it all the time.

It is accurate out of everything i've tried it in, and seems to have a bit more speed.

I haven't crony'd it though.

SuperFormance is the new light mag!! I use Light Mag in my 280 and 7X57 and both give me MOA groups. I have just tried the SP 180 gr SSTs in my 30-06 and my first grouping attempt was a .340" grp. Recoil seemed less than my 7X57. I will be trying SP in my 280 and 7X57 when I can get my hands on some!! Also my buddy shot a .495" grp with the 30-06 165 gr SSTs. Rifles used were both 700 Rem SPS DM. For the record I have taken deer, elk, moose and black bear with the Light Mags and have always had great success with them. I believe the SP will give me the same results!!

Just shoot straigt and you should have the same results!!!!
