Hi,
I have the chance of buying one of these presses new and I need some advice.
I currently load for about 5 different metallic cartridges plus 12 and 20 gauge.
I want to use this press for .308 Win, 9mm Para. and .357 Mag.
Given what is included with the kit as is, what do I need to order in addition to shell plates to get going? I'm not concerned yet with bullet or case feeders I simply want to get started.
Regards

Press does NOT come with any shell plates or dies, it does come with 5 bushings for your dies thou. Normally you'd need 3 dies and 3 bushings per caliber you load. New presses come with both - pistol and rifle powder measure inserts, so you should be covered there.

You will need 8 bushings to load the 3 cals. mentioned. You can order direct from Hornady and if you do ask for a couple of case retention springs. When you set up the press you may have to slightly tune the timing of the shell plate carrier. This is simple after you understand the principal of the thing. Failure to do so can result in pawl damage. Good luck with your new toy...

Everything that I load on mine that does not use a carbide sizer die , I size and de-prime on single stage and do all the remaining steps on the progressive press . I find that this leads to more consistant powder drops and a smoother operation. Also removing the need for 1 station worth of bushings as you are getting started, There will be plenty of time opertunity for adding more goodies as you go along!

A press kit comes with only one rifle powder insert and one pistol powder insert. Ideally, you want an insert for each powder charge you are going to throw regularly, plus one extra insert for each of rifle and pistol so you can play with charges without messing up your standard load settings.
